Dr. Brandith Irwin:
Welcome to SkinTour.com. I’m Dr. Brandith Irwin and we are here to provide you with expert skincare advice and advice about cosmetic dermatology. This is a section on wrinkles and lasers. This is actually a little more complicated than you might think. So let’s first think about the different kinds of wrinkles that we have. First there are the little fine, creepy wrinkles that we often get around our eyes or on our necks for example. Sometimes in younger patients maybe thirty year olds you’ll find it those little creepy wrinkles in areas that are dry. For example there are medium depth wrinkles and those are the ones and when wrinkles are just beginning to form they might not be present when the face is at rest. Or you know they might just be visible when we’re smiling or our face is moving.
Then there are much deeper wrinkles that are permanent, that are there whether we’re smiling or our faces are at rest. And you might think of really deep wrinkles on the upper lip those are really deep wrinkles that many, many women hate. Or deep wrinkles around the mouth or deep wrinkles around the chin. Because different wrinkles require different treatment plans.
When you’re thinking about your wrinkles, you need to think about your age and how deep your wrinkles are. And then that way you can help choose the laser that will be appropriate for those wrinkles. So for example, if you’re thirty-five years old you just have some little light, creepy wrinkles, you don’t need a fractionated CO2 laser in general. That laser is perfect for someone who is sixty years old with some deep wrinkles maybe some moderate wrinkles on their cheek and then deep wrinkles on the upper lip for example.
And then you also want to think whether or not there are other existing conditions like brown spots. For example CO2 lasers and Fraxel lasers if you have wrinkles and brown spots will be the best choice for you. And then again you can decide between the two based on your age and how deep the wrinkles are and how much downtime you have. Some patients say oh my goodness I have to be ready I can do this on a Friday I have to be back at work on Monday. In which case a Fraxel’s going to be a much better choice for you than a CO2 laser. So you have to weigh in also how much time you can commit to the recovery process. So again as you can see there’s a lot to know about these lasers and if you would like more information see our guide on your specific lasers for specific things like wrinkles on SkinTour.com. I hope you enjoy your time on SkinTour.
