Can Accutane be used for rosacea?Jun 16, 2010 Can Accutane be prescribed for Rosacea if the papules(Bumps/Pimples) are not present?
I have the constant redness and broken blood vessels. Thanks for any info! Bonnie
I think it would be safe to say that Accutane is rarely used now for rosacea because the FDA guidelines for it's use are very strict and it's use is monitored so closely through the IPledge program. Also, it is more effective for the very pustular and cystic forms of rosacea. It doesn't do much for the underlying redness and dilated blood vessels. It's really not a good choice for you, in my opinion. Have you seen your dermatologist? A good dermatologist can almost always get rosacea under good control with a combination of advice regarding triggers, prescription face washes, creams or gels, oral antibiotics (not always needed), and lasers as a last resort. Lasers will not be covered by insurance but are very effective for the redness and blood vessels. Dr. I
