Can I get good results with the Fraxel without the downtime?

Aug 20, 2010
I recently had two profraxional laser treatments done and am seeing some improvements in tone and texture, however the downtime was extreme. For 6 days I had red blood marks all over my face. I would like to continue my treatments but am not able to take time off. What kind of results should I expect with Fraxel? And is there a reason profraxional should be recommended over Fraxel? Thanks, Dave

There are now A LOT of copy cat laser systems in existence who use the words fractional or some like that in their titles or their marketing.  Everyone please pay a lot of attention to exactly which system you are considering because it really makes a difference in the downtime, results, cost, possible complications, and discomfort during the procedure.   I'm glad you wrote because you're question will help many others!

It's hard to know which system was used on you with what you said above.  With the Fraxel Restore (this is the gentler erbium system NOT the CO2 system), you should be able to have the treatment on a Thurs or Friday and be back at work on Monday just slightly puffy.  Get some tinted sunscreen like the Elta MD Physical Block to help cover up a little and sunscreen at the same time.   Your results may not be quite as dramatic but you'll be able to continue your treatments without time off from work unless you need to be "camera ready."   Dr, I
