I'm allergic to the DHA in self-tanning products. What now?

Dec 09, 2010
I am allergic to dihydroxyacetone the active ingredient in most self tanning products. The only alternative I'm aware of is erythrulose but I cant find a self tanner which only uses erythrulose as the active ingredient. Can you provide any suggestions.
I really do not know of any ingredient that works as well as the DHA (dihydroxyacetone) does.  One of my patients tried eating so many carrots that she turned a slightly orangy color but I don't recommend that.   It's possible that too much beta carotene may promote the growth of certain types of cancer.   Dr. I
