Is liposuction safe?Dec 31, 2011 Hi Dr. Irwin -
I love your book and have purchased copies for friends. In it you advise against liposuction. Is that still your opinion with some of the new treatment options on the market like "smart" lipo?
Thank you! Hmmm ...... what I usually say about liposuction is to be very careful about who does it and realistic about goals. Maybe I didn't get that across clearly! Anyway, on the body, it can be quite nice when done by a doctor who's very experienced and good at it. And yes, some of the new innovations have definately made it safer. Some critics argue that the results aren't as good. Liposuction on the face is usually not done unless it's right around the jawline, or under the chin. Again, for the right person and with an expert at this procedure, the results can be good. I briefly talk about liposuction in my article The Aging Face by Decade (look at the 50s). Dr. I |
