Is there any way to control these benign growths (keratoses) on the body?Apr 04, 2011 Dr. Irwin, I am 48 years old and really battling keratosis. Some are raised and some are flat. Is there a lotion that can help me get rid of these and fade them?
Okay - I'm making some assumptions. I'm assuming these are the benign form (seborrheic keratoses (seb kers)) not the precancerous ones (actinic keratoses). Sometimes people get these confused and they are VERY different. If you are not sure, be sure you have a skin exam with your dermatologist to be sure. Also, I'm assuming you are having a problem with these on your body, not your face. I would recommend something different for your face. Here's some info: sometimes an all over body lotion that has a some glycolic acid about 10% or a drugstore product called Amlactin works on these. Ask your dermatologist about it. There is also a product called Carmol 40 which can be put on the seb kers themselves (need a script from your doctor for this). It softens the growths. You use this for about a month and then use a body scrub or loofah twice a week to gently slough them off. Really large, or resistent ones can be "frozen" off with liquid nitrogen by your dermatologist. Here is more information on moles, lumps and bumps. Dr. I
