Generally, with Renova, you don't need to exfoliate much if at all.  This is because the Renova/retinoid helps to slough off the old, dead superficial cells faster.  It's kind of like a gentle invisible exfoliation daily.   If you do exfoliate while using Renova, use a very gentle product and once a week should be plenty.  If you're getting visible peeling or flaking with Renova past the first week or two, try putting on your moisturizer, waiting 10 minutes and then applying a pea sized amount.  Dr. I
