Can you tell me about mesotherapy?

Hi Dr. Irwin, Can you tell us more about MESOTHERAPY, how effective is it compares to treatment such as sculptra, thermage?? Thanks-

Mesotherapy is a general term given to the relatively new (last 5-6 years or so) technique of injecting in various ways liquid substances into and under the skin.

I would really vote for avoiding it for now because there is currently little regulation of it and no real control over the purity of the products or even safety testing that’s required.  All a manufacturer has to do is put together a cocktail of various things and prove that it doesn’t cause harm upon immediate injection.   It’s used much more in Europe and I think the field will evolve and may eventually be based in good science but at this point, you really don’t know for sure about the purity of substances or even that they don’t have harmful side effects long term.

Also, the skin is a barrier for a reason and has an immune system function.  If a solution with 20 different components is injected into the skin, does it create more allergic problems over time??? We don’t know the answer to that.

One of the best investments in your skin is your daily skincare. Why? Because you can prevent many problems with blotchy skin color, lack of glow, texture, some types of acne, and fine lines with good skincare products. You can also correct some of these problems with effective skincare products. Great skincare is often more expensive because quality ingredients are expensive. Some companies spend on research/development which benefits all of us and adds to the cost. Are they worth it? In general - yes! I have handpicked some of what I consider to be the best skin care products, and offer them for sale on SkinTour's shop. This is based on my team and I's testing and research at our clinic. Many of the products are in my own regimen. What could be better than using skin care products a dermatologist uses?!
