Could a dark spot or dark crease be do to Retin A or other retinoids?

ive been told a hundred times that retin a under eyes does NOT cause permanant damage but ever since ive used it I have this dark like crease underneath one eye now that has never been there prior to me using this. it was been two years. i have not used anything there at all this whole two years thinking it would get better but never has...i also went to a dermatologist that said she has no idea what it is either. but again I never had it before until i used the retin a. i ve read you saying to go to the dermatologist if something does not improve but they obviously they do not know either. so it IS possible that retin a has done this yes ??

I know that you are frustrated and I completely believe you when you say the dark crease appeared about the same time you started using Retin A.   But………..that doesn’t mean the Retin A caused the dark crease and here’s why ………I’m going to try and explain this.

Sometimes things occur together in time but………are not caused by something.  Some examples of this might be :

  • You tell your brother about an accident a friend of yours had.  That day your brother has a car accident.  Did you cause his car accident?
  • Or, you are on a plane and are infected with a cold by someone  on the plane, now you get off the plane and eat pizza –  did the pizza cause the cold – probably not.

What I’m trying to say is that just because it started around the same time doesn’t mean that it caused it.   I have to agree with your dermatologist, I think something else is more likely to be causing the line.

Hope this helps,  Dr. I

SkinTour Skincare
One of the best investments in your skin is your daily skincare. Why? Because you can prevent many problems with blotchy skin color, lack of glow, texture, some types of acne, and fine lines with good skincare products. You can also correct some of these problems with effective skincare products. Great skincare is often more expensive because quality ingredients are expensive. Some companies spend on research/development which benefits all of us and adds to the cost. Are they worth it? In general - yes! I have handpicked some of what I consider to be the best skin care products, and offer them for sale on SkinTour's shop. This is based on my team and I's testing and research at our clinic. Many of the products are in my own regimen. What could be better than using skin care products a dermatologist uses?!
