Is liposuction safe?

Hi Dr. Irwin - I love your book and have purchased copies for friends. In it you advise against liposuction. Is that still your opinion with some of the new treatment options on the market like "smart" lipo?

Thank you!  Hmmm …… what I usually say about liposuction is to be very careful about who does it and realistic about goals.  Maybe I didn’t get that across clearly!   Anyway, on the body, it can be quite nice when done by a doctor who’s very experienced and good at it.  And yes, some of the new innovations have definately made it safer.  Some critics argue that the results aren’t as good.

Liposuction on the face is usually not done unless it’s right around the jawline, or under the chin.  Again, for the right person and with an expert at this procedure, the results can be good.  I briefly talk about liposuction in my article The Aging Face by Decade (look at the 50s). Dr. I

SkinTour Skincare
One of the best investments in your skin is your daily skincare. Why? Because you can prevent many problems with blotchy skin color, lack of glow, texture, some types of acne, and fine lines with good skincare products. You can also correct some of these problems with effective skincare products. Great skincare is often more expensive because quality ingredients are expensive. Some companies spend on research/development which benefits all of us and adds to the cost. Are they worth it? In general - yes! I have handpicked some of what I consider to be the best skin care products, and offer them for sale on SkinTour's shop. This is based on my team and I's testing and research at our clinic. Many of the products are in my own regimen. What could be better than using skin care products a dermatologist uses?!
