I use Retin-A, 0.5% on my face, and 0.25% on my forehead. One patch of skin on my forhead always gets red and peels, itches, get rets red, etc......everything else is fine!! Any suggestions for that area? Should I use Renove instead of Retin-A? Thank you

Hi Dr. Irwin- I wanted to ask you about post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. My skin is pretty even overall, but I have a few darker spots from some acne I had two years ago. I have used both over-the-counter and prescription retinol products since then, and am very religious about sunscreen, but they just aren't going away. I was hopeful when I read about Elure, but would like professional advice. What do you think is the best treatment for these types of dark spots?

There is no great research on this.  In my opinion, they don't help  because it isn't the muscles that are sagging!   Sometimes, they even make things worse because some wrinkles are caused... more


Can I use tretinoin cream with hydroxy acids or ascorbic acid serum if I can tolerate it? I heard that these ingredients inactivate each other when used together at the same time.
I've never seen any studies on this.  One way to get around the issue would be to use the hydroxy acid alternating with the tretinoin at night and the Vitamin C serum every morning.  Also,... more
