Moisturizers

Moisturizers are definitely worth using.

Particularly if you have dry skin, moisturizers will help to prevent fine lines and improve the appearance of your skin over time. We’ve all had the experience of being dry, applying a moisturizer, and having our skin look instantly better.

Moisturizers work to retard your skin’s natural loss of moisture.  They also add moisture back in.

In general, if you have oily skin, you’ll want to use a moisturizer like a gel that will hydrate (add water to) your skin but won’t add more oil.

If you have normal skin, you'll want a lotion or light cream. If you're very dry, use a heavy cream that takes a minute or two to absorb into your skin.  And apply it more frequently than once or twice a day.

Everyone should use a moisturizer around their eye area and on their necks because we all have very few oil glands in those areas. If you’re oily through the T-zone area, just use your moisturizer on your eye area, your cheeks, and your neck.

Each of the basic types of skin is both a blessing and a curse. If you have oily skin, you have your own natural moisturizer and less tendency toward wrinkles. But you’ll have more of a tendency toward acne and larger pores.

If you have dry skin, you’ll have a greater tendency toward wrinkles but much less tendency toward acne and large pores. There’s something positive about each skin type.

Here are some good moisturizers.  You can link through to SkinCareRx.com on some of these to buy or to browse.

MD Forte, Replenish Hydrating Cream.   This is a very emollient, long-wearing, deep-hydrating cream for dry skin.

Cellex-C, Sea-Silk Oil-Free Moisturizer.  This is a light, oil-free moisturizer that provides good hydration without aggravating oiliness.

DDF Aloe Toning Complex.  This is really a toner but can be used after cleansing to rehydrate and soothe skin.  Good for after shaving or for swimmers who are in chlorinated pools a lot.

Avene Akerat Smoothing and Retexturizing Body Cream.  A very rich hydrating body cream for severely dry skin.  Also good for swimmers in chlorinated pools.

The Eminence organic line has some good moisturizers:

Eminence, Blueberry Soy Night Recovery Cream.   This rich moisturizer contains blueberry extract as an antioxidant and soy, which has some estrogenic effects (helps plump the skin).  Great for extremely dry skin.

Eminence, Sugar Plum Whip Moisturizer.  This sounds good enough to eat.  It's a great weight for skin that is normal.  Lightly scented (natural) with natural antioxidants.

Eminence Wild Plum Eye Cream.  A very nice organic eye cream.

Here are some drugstore and department store options that are really affordable:
