Sunscreens & Self Tanners
Sunscreens are your single most important skin care product because it is the sun that causes many of the brown spots, red veins, leathery texture, sagging and wrinkles, not to mention skin cancers and precancerous spots (actinic keratoses). Here are a range of sunscreens I highly recommend for different skin types. I try to indicate which are for different climates or different sports, like water sports, or easy to use powder sunscreens for golf and fishing. See also the section on Eyes & Lips. As with every product on SkinTour.com, we have personally tested and used every product recommended:

Sunscreen/Normal/Face - Almost everyone who has tested this loved it. At least half my office uses it. Light weight, with a slight universal tint so not too chalky. Water resistent, mineral block with zinc, paraben free. Works fairly well for darker skin types but some find it won't blend well.

Colorescience
SunForgettable Powder SPF 30 - All Clear
$49.50

|
Daily/Water/Sports/Melasma - This is a great invention, and I use it all the time. It comes in a small tube, with a self-contained brush. You just shake the powder down, and brush on the powder. The powder stays on your skin, and the high zinc and titanium content gives you great UVA and UVB blocking. Great for a humid climate (or oily skin), because it goes on dry and leaves no oily, greasy sheen. Expensive, but worth it. Layer it over a sunscreen lotion for maximum protection at altitude or in intense sun. Men like this product usually.
See the tinted version below also.

Colorescience
Sunforgettable SPF 30 - Perfectly Clear
$49.50

|
Daily/Water/Sports/Melasma - This one is lightly tinted which is nice on the face but not if you use this sunscreen on your neck/chest where the tint can rub off on clothing. See above for instructions on use. Again, this sunscreen is especially great for outdoor sports because it can be reapplied without getting your hands greasy. It's also fast to apply due to the built-in brush applicator. Even better over a lotion sunscreen base.
Good for golf, cycling, hiking, open water swimming, rock climbing, long distance running, rowing and many other situations where grease doesn't cut it. It's lightweight and small to carry. Men like this product usually.

DermaQuest
Skin Therapy ZinClear SPF 30
$51.50

Daily/Chemical Free/Sensitive/Melasma – Still one of my favorites. No other sunscreen has 18% zinc and goes on this well that I’ve ever seen. Great for melasma and anyone with pigment problems. See below for the tinted. Doesn’t have the chalky look that many zinc sunscreens give you. This is a physical sunscreen, meaning that it contains no sunscreen chemicals. Excellent also for sensitive skin. Expensive, but worth it for the extra protection.

La Roche-Posay
Anthelios Sunscreen Cream
$29.70
Learn more or buy now at our partner SkinCareRx.com

|
Daily/Normal to Dry Skin - Anthelios was one of the first sunscreens to have mexoryl, a UVA blocker that lasts longer in the sun than avobenzone (parsol 1789). Some people like the mexoryl-based sunscreens, because it can also moisturize and because there is no issue of looking chalky or white. Zinc still covers the UVA range better but some people just don’t like the zinc!
So this sunscreen gives you long-lasting UVA and UVB protection in a moisturizing lotion. Excellent for a very dry climate.

|
Sport/Chemical Free/ Sensitive/Budget Saver - A great value: 7.5% zinc oxide, no synthetic chemical sunscreen agents, unscented, hypoallergenic, very water resistant, and with some aloe and vitamin E. A bit too heavy for oily skin, but great for outdoors at a very good price. Hard to go wrong with this product.

Sun Laboratories
Ultra Dark Instant Tint - Dark
$34.00
Learn more or buy now at our partner SkinCareRx.com

|
Self Tanner/Sunless Tanner - Sun Laboratories make what I think are the best self tanners. Their products go on well, without being too heavy or greasy. They smell good, without that chemical smell you get with many self tanners. They don't streak (unless your application is really bad), and the color tone is natural, not too orange.
