Until recently, other than liposuction, these haven't been worth wasting your money on. That is beginning to change in that there are relatively new technologies that are promising.
The Zeltiq works by grabbing that love handle or abdominal pouch with large plates, squeezing it firmly, and then delivering very cold temperatures to the area. The cold kills about 10-20% of the fat cells, which then die and are metabolized. The fat does not recur. The Zeltiq technology is limited by some discomfort, small areas at one time, and only up to about 1 inch of loss. This is not a substitute for liposuction. Consider it more a fine tuning. The Zerona - another fat busting technology -doesn't work in my opinion. It punctures with ultrasound a small hole in the fat cell membrane and the fat drains out, making you temporarily look better. The cell remains though and then the fat reaccumulates. Probably not worth the money. More on another fat busting technology later. Dr. Irwin |
