Itchy Irritated Eyelid Skin

May 14, 2009

This time of year, I hear more about eyelid problems. No one likes itchy, red, irritated eyelids!

There are four main causes:

  • Seasonal allergies (pollens, etc),
  • creams and make up we women put on our eyelids,
  • things we transfer to our eyelids from our hands by touching or rubbing our eyes,
  • rosacea, and occasionally infections.

See your dermatologist to sort these out!  But while you're waiting to get in, try going without any make up or creams except for one hypoallergenic one like Vanicream (Free & Clear line). Stop using nail polish - it's one of the biggest eyelid irritants (who knew!!).   Also, see your primary care doc or opthomologist if you have any signs of infection or drainage from your eyes.
