Summer Sun and Hair

Jul 24, 2009
Hair can really get damaged by sun with all that ultraviolet radiation, especially if you color your hair or have a lot of gray. Here's how to protect it.

- wear a hat when you're outside

- when swimming in chlorinated pools, get your hair thoroughly wet in the shower, apply conditioner and then a swim cap. When you get out, use a chlorine removing shampoo (can find these at most large drug stores and Aveda makes a nice one) and then reapply conditioner.

- when swimming outdoors in salt water, rinse the salt out if you can, and use a spray-on UV shield afterwards (Aveda makes one and you can find others online as well).

- when swimming outdoors in fresh water, no need to rinse - just spray on a UV shield.
