The Summer Solstice

Apr 30, 2010

UVA is the strongest for the 2-3 months on either side of the summer solstice, which is the third week of June.

Check your sunscreens for good UVA blockers like zinc or titanium (look for 5-20%) or Mexoryl 3% or "stabilized" Parsol. Melasma always gets worse this time of year due to the increased UVA, as do lupus related rashes on the face (also UVA sensitive).

I'll have some new sunscreen recommendations on SkinTour in a week or two, but SkinCeuticals and Elta MD make really good sunscreens.  The links will take you to SkinCareRx.com for more info or to buy.
