Which Products Are Worth Using
Dermatologist Dr. Brandith Irwin:
You know, the first line of defense are our products, we put those on every day and if you think about it, we get a little bit of UV every single day, 365 days a year. So we want to protect our skin with antioxidants, great sunscreens and then use the repair products and our basics like moisturizers and cleansers in addition. As far as where to put your products, but I really recommend you using it on your neck and chest as well. You want those areas to look consistent. You know, so that you’re not super great on your face, sun-damaged on your neck and really blotchy on your chest. Doesn’t look good. And then don’t forget the back of your hands. They get a lot of UV light, so put your products there too. When it comes down to it, products are the easiest, most accessible way for women to get started with good skin care. I customize my plans for each person, but pretty much everyone should be using a gentle cleanser, a good moisturizer, and then beyond that, an antioxidant, a vitamin A cream, and a great sunscreen. The things like cleansers, moisturizers…that is where I usually recommend that women don’t spend a lot of their money. You can spend a lot of money on those… but the fact is that like, cidavil and seravey and all these great brands that are simple and inexpensive, and you can buy them anywhere…are great. I really think that for many women, starting with products is key because, it’s the first easy steps that then lead a women to take care of herself, that self-care that then engenders more positive regard and self-esteem and then other positive changes start to snowball after that.
