Hello Richa –  thank you for visiting SkinTour!

If your skin is fairly light in color and the doctor and his/her nurses are well trained, generally the diode based laser hair systems like the LightSheer by Lumenis will be safe for you.  If you were darker skinned, it is safer to go with an Nd:YAG (Neodymium YAG) based hair removal laser.

I’m going to assume you’re not pregnant because we generally don’t recommend lasers during pregnancy (just to be extra safe!).   Generally, there is no need to wait for a test of your hormones to start laser treatments.

When we have a patient with irregular periods, we recommend that they see a gynecologist for an evaluation.  If the gynecologist finds a condition called Polycystic Ovaries, which can cause facial hair growth, irregular periods and sometimes acne, then the laser treatments will not work as well as they normally do.   It doesn’t mean that you can’t do them, but it may mean you will need more treatments and more maintenance after the initial series.  So please see your gynecologist for an evaluation.

 Hope this helps,  Dr. I

SkinTour Skincare
One of the best investments in your skin is your daily skincare. Why? Because you can prevent many problems with blotchy skin color, lack of glow, texture, some types of acne, and fine lines with good skincare products. You can also correct some of these problems with effective skincare products. Great skincare is often more expensive because quality ingredients are expensive. Some companies spend on research/development which benefits all of us and adds to the cost. Are they worth it? In general - yes! I have handpicked some of what I consider to be the best skin care products, and offer them for sale on SkinTour's shop. This is based on my team and I's testing and research at our clinic. Many of the products are in my own regimen. What could be better than using skin care products a dermatologist uses?!
