Filler problems (Juvederm?) on the upper lip lines. Something to think about!
Dear readers, I see a number of patients with problems sent from other offices for me to try to correct. One thing I’m noticing is that many patients/consumers do NOT really know what was injected and assumed it was Juvederm or Restylane. Please, please, please make sure you see exactly what was used on you and write the name of it down. If there is a problem later, this is critical information.
We keep the boxes in the room visible at all times and also put the company sticker that is on the syringe with the name and lot # on it on every chart. Good offices will do this.
Juvederm almost never lasts that long on the upper lip which is why I’m wondering. Please call the doctor’s office and see if you can get confirmation of what was actually used.
Also – WARNING – for Europe, Asia, Africa and South America – there is very little regulation of fillers outside the U.S. There are 200+ fillers now “available” in Europe and many of them are cheap, poorly manufactured products which can cause problems. Also, and I hate to say this, there are sometimes unethical providers who will say one thing and then inject a cheaper product instead without disclosing it to you. Please be careful and try to look for the official boxes for Restylane, Perlane, Juvederm, Voluma (not in the U.S. yet), Belotero etc. These are all made by reputable companies.
Hope this helps, Dr. I
