If I’m using a daily light exfoliant product, do I still need the monthly peels?

Hello Dr.Irvin, Many thanks for your site which is the best there is! I'm using a daily chemical exfoliator(Skinceuticals Blemish + AGE). I am also due to have a regular monthly Obagi Blue Peel. Is there now any need to continue with using the daily exfoliator or will I over do it with both? Thank you so much!!

You’re welcome!!   This really depends on your skin type, age, other products etc.   Unless your skin is very oily, thick and/or acne prone, generally there is no need to do both a light, daily exfoliant like AHAs or retinoids PLUS monthly peels.

Many people over exfoliate now which also causes skin to look dry, dull and irritated.   When in doubt…….take a SKIN  REST week or two (Calvin – link to the sensitive skin section in the cart.).    Just use a gentle cleanser, a bland moisturzer and sunscreen and nothing else.   If your skin is suddenly looking much better a week into it – you have your answer!

Hope this helps, Dr. I

SkinTour Skincare
One of the best investments in your skin is your daily skincare. Why? Because you can prevent many problems with blotchy skin color, lack of glow, texture, some types of acne, and fine lines with good skincare products. You can also correct some of these problems with effective skincare products. Great skincare is often more expensive because quality ingredients are expensive. Some companies spend on research/development which benefits all of us and adds to the cost. Are they worth it? In general - yes! I have handpicked some of what I consider to be the best skin care products, and offer them for sale on SkinTour's shop. This is based on my team and I's testing and research at our clinic. Many of the products are in my own regimen. What could be better than using skin care products a dermatologist uses?!
