Skin help for a tired, breast feeding mom!

Hello Dr. Irwin. Thank you for taking your time to address our concerns and worries. You are a great lady. I have dark circles, acne and fine wrinkles around the eyes. these wrinkles extend to the cheeks too. i also have mask of pregnancy around my cheek area and all these combined make me look so old yet am only 26yrs old. I RECENTLY used VIT K PROFESSIONAL FOR AGE SPOTS (by freeman)and saw a slight improvement but after two weeks of usage i stopped using it because i wasn't sure it was safe to use it while exclusively breastfeeding. I have a four months old girl. I later saw a GP who prescribed tretinoin 0.05% to be applied only at bed time. He said this will help with the acne and reverse the aging signs. I have been using the cream for a week now and see no major improvement esp on the wrinkling around the eyes. I have also noticed that on the tube, its indicated that the cream should not be prescribed to breastfeeding and pregnant women. Although the GP assured me it safe to use as no significant amounts are absorbed into the bloodstream, i still am not sure i should continue using it. My husband says i look old and should do something about it. What do you think is the best thing to do especially so as to get rid of the wrinkles around the eyes and mask of pregnancy? TIA

You’re so welcome!!   First of all, I’m hoping your husband didn’t mean that comment and it just slipped out because he has a beautiful 4 month old baby!  And……every breast feeding mom with a 4 month old is TIRED from being up at night.  Be gentle with yourself on this.  Your hormones and moods are also jumping around which is normal post baby.

My vote would be to not use too many new products for about 2 more months until baby is about 6 months and taking some solids pretty well.    Your GP is right, that tiny amount of tretinoin cream won’t be harmful (just don’t use when your pregnant) and your skin will start to look better.

The best thing for the “mask of pregnancy” is time and lots of zinc containing sunscreen plus an antioxidant and the tretinoin.   Use a good eye cream for now also.   Many of the better drugstore eye creams are also good.

SkinTour Skincare
One of the best investments in your skin is your daily skincare. Why? Because you can prevent many problems with blotchy skin color, lack of glow, texture, some types of acne, and fine lines with good skincare products. You can also correct some of these problems with effective skincare products. Great skincare is often more expensive because quality ingredients are expensive. Some companies spend on research/development which benefits all of us and adds to the cost. Are they worth it? In general - yes! I have handpicked some of what I consider to be the best skin care products, and offer them for sale on SkinTour's shop. This is based on my team and I's testing and research at our clinic. Many of the products are in my own regimen. What could be better than using skin care products a dermatologist uses?!
