Fillers – What You Need to Know (#2 of 4)
What about other fillers like Radiesse? Radiesse is a different substance altogether from hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvederm and Restylane. It’s a calcium hydoxylapetite filler, which is similar to a softer form of cartilage. There are many excellent doctors who use this product. When it’s used correctly, it’s safety profile is good. It’s used most often for a “cheek lift.” It should never be injected into or around the lips or eyes.
I don’t recommend Radiesse because, in my opinion, it gives the face a peculiar wooden look, especially when the face is moving – laughing, talking, smiling, etc. Alternatives to Radiesse are Sculptra, or the higher molecular weight or more crosslinked HAs like Juvederm Ultra Plus or Perlane.
