Receding hollow mouth: I have a “caved” in appearance around my mouth. Any solutions?
This question on a receding hollow mouth was from December. Apologies…….I’m just getting caught up after a trip. 🙂 We are ALL aging right? I love that you are 85 and that you want to find solutions!

Receding hollow mouth
We ALL lose thickness of our skin, fat, some muscle and bone as we age. And……especially around the mouth where we tend to lose bone more over time. If we want to maintain a more youthful and supported look to this area………which also supports the lips too……then well done volume replacement really helps.
Starting about age 45-50, a syringe or two of hyaluronic acid and perhaps a little Sculptra or Radiesse, really helps with this. If you’ve not started until now – at age 85 – you can still do this but it will take more product (generally at 85 about 4-5 syringes just for the perioral area (includes the lips, jawline, chin and folds around the upper lip and chin). Generally, if one wants to redrape the cheekbone area volume nonsurgically also, then think approximately twice that much.
Once it’s good though, if longer lasting products like Voluma, Sculptra etc are used, then maintenance is less and needed once or twice a year. The key is to find a provider whether a dermatologist, plastice surgeon or nurse who is experienced and willing to go slowly – as in no more than 2-3 syringes at a time.
Hope this helps with your concerns on a receding hollow mouth area! Dr. I
