How long can bruising from a filler last? Causes and treatments

It's now 6 weeks after filler was used in my marionette lines and the bruising, which was severe at the time, is still evident. I am fair skinned and 63. I followed all the instructions - pineapple, arnica creams and pills, no alcohol, no aspirin etc. I'm beginning to wonder if my skin will ever heal or whether I'll be left with dark marks either side and underneath my chin. Have you heard about this problem before?

It really sounds like you did everything you could to prevent bruising. A few small to medium sized bruises that last a few days to a week or so are considered normal. But 6 weeks later? This doesn’t make sense to me.

You didn’t tell me which filler was used. If the filler was a hyaluronic acid filler like Juvederm or Restylane, then it’s time to consider that it might have been placed too superficially in the dermis, which will result in a bluish discoloration which doesn’t go away. It’s sometimes called the Tindall effect. If it’s a placement problem, the filler should be removed with hyaluronidase and redone a week or two later, in my opinion, at no extra cost to you.

Please go back to your provider – hopefully a board certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon, or a very experienced RN in their office, and see what their evaluation is.
