Removing a mole – what method is best?

I have a mole on my neck that is irritated by collars and jewelry. I would like to have it removed with the least amount of scarring. Are there laser treatments for this? Shaving it off sounds good but want the hair follicles removed. Thanks for your help. Marilyn

Hi Marilyn, if you want a mole with hair removed so that the hair won’t grow there, you must have it excised down through the base which means stitches not just a “shave excision.”  

A good dermatologist can give you an estimate of cost (not usually covered by insurance if cosmetic) and what the scar should look like. You are always trading a mole for a scar. It’s just a question of – is it a good trade?
