Can different hair removal lasers have different results, even if they are both diode lasers?
Yes – they can have different results! Diode lasers have been used for years and use semiconductor technology that can be “tuned” to different wavelengths The most common wavelength for hair removal is at or very close to 800 nm.
Even if both lasers that you mentioned above are tuned to 800 nm, they may have different results to other variables in the laser like the peak power, the “width” of the laser pulse, the shape of the pulse itself, and other physics stuff that I find interesting ……..and I’m pretty sure most of you don’t! 🙂
There are two bottom lines on this:
- First, they may be different, try going back to the first laser. See if you have someone in your city who has the Lumenis Light Sheer which was the first one you used. And…….ask your doctor why he/she thinks there is a difference.
- Secondly, there is a small percentage of people, that no matter which laser is used, grow MORE hair and not less hair. It’s hard to get an accurate percentage but estimates are about 5% of those who try laser hair removal. You may be one of that small percentage and need to wax, try an Nd:YAG hair removal laser, or do electrolysis.
