New from Paris Conf (IMCAS) For women – improving vaginal dryness and health and appearance
Many women, as they age, develop vaginal dryness which can impair sexual enjoyment and cause discomfort. This is particularly true in post menopausal or post breast cancer women who can’t take estrogens.
A new device which is called the ThermiVa uses radiofrequency (sounds waves) to stimulate growth of cells in the vaginal and vulvar area and improve dryness and discomfort. Interestingly, there are also reports of improvement in mild to moderate incontinence (losing a little urine when you cough, sneeze, bear down). I’m waiting for more data on this incontinence result. It is very comfortable and takes about 45 minutes. I was so skeptical about this that I had a friend do a treatment on me, and I can confirm that it’s very comfortable. It also has the interesting side effect of making the vulvar area look younger, if that is of concern to you.
The ThermiVa treatments for vaginal dryness are usually done once a month for 3 months and results appear to last about a year. Unfortunately insurance will not cover this (yet).
Hope this helps, Dr. I
