Are Dysport/Botox and Sculptra compatible? A problem!

I had Dysport injected by a plastic surgeon who has injected me for years. I only get it twice a year. This time he injected while my face was still swollen from Sculptra. I had heaviness so bad I could hardly keep my eyes open for five weeks. I have vertical lines and bags under my eyes and it has been twelve weeks. I also developed ringing in my left ear that is constant. It sometimes seems my face wrinkles change everyday. Some days are worse than others. Will the vertical wrinkles and ear ringing ever go away? I have had so much anxiety. I look ten years older and I am so depressed.

I’m glad you asked this because you bring up a couple of good points for everyone to remember.    Here’s what to keep in mind:

  • Sculptra is the only filler that comes in vials and is mixed a day or two prior to treatment with sterile water.  Right before treatment some lidocaine (numbing agent) is added, so when it’s injected those liquids go into the skin also;
  • Those liquids are absorbed on their own over about  3 days which is why there’s that nice plumpness to the skin during that time.  Those liquids go away and then very slowly the Sculptra starts to build your own collagen;
  • While those liquids are in the skin (wait at least 4-7 days), you don’t want to have Botox/Dysport injected because the liquid can cause them to migrate where you don’t want the Botox/Dysport;
  • Sculptra is a wonderful, natural looking filler that builds your own collagen.  It is however, trickier for dermatologists/doctors to use so it’s good to make sure all your questions are answered before having treatments
  • Also remember that Dysport migrates naturally more than Botox does.  In some patients that’s a plus but in others, it can cause problems.
