A problem with filler (Juvederm) months after injection – please help!

My last juvederm was eight months ago. As it has started to absorb into the skin, my face has become very swollen with a doughy texture in the cheeks, around my mouth, and on my forehead, around areas where juvederm was injected. It is tender to the touch and looks sunburned with pressure. The dermatologist does not wish to inject anything further as he feels this is an unusual reaction. It is uncomfortable and looks terrible. Can anything be done to help with the edema?

I’m so sad that this happened to you. I have some ideas for you though which I discussed in a blog post several months ago. In particular, look at number two which discusses “biofilms.” Your dermatologist should be able to help you with this or seek out the dermatology office closest to you which has the greatest expertise and the best reputation for working with injectibles. If they don’t know much about them, they can do a medical literature search on the topic.
