Are injections of filler inside the mouth safe?
The answer to the above is no. And, in my opinion, injecting fillers into the face through the mouth raises safety issues. Think about it! The mouth is one of the most bacteria laden places on the body. The skin there cannot be sterilized with alcohol. If a needle is used inside the mouth, it contaminates the needle which then could contaminate the filler. An infection of the filler implant itself can be very serious. Until we have safety data that confirms this is safe, I vote a strong no on this one.
Several patients of mine have asked about this recently because apparently there was an episode with doctors talking about this as safe or demonstrating injecting fillers through the mouth on camera. I think the burden is on them to show why this isn’t a risk. Dr. I
