If I am african american, what is the best way to treat under eye bags?
Under eye bags are a tough one partly because we all lump a range of under eye problems in this category. So, I have a couple of questions for you?
1) Is the bag right under the lash line and then there’s a hollow space before the cheek? Generally, if that’s the case, then Restylane in this “tear trough” area should even it out and make the area look less tired. Experts only though – this is a tough area to do well and prone to complications. You really want someone who knows what they are doing. Read our article on How to Find a Good Dermatologist.
2) Does it look bumpy, lumpy and irregular and with loose skin? In this case, surgery may be the best option, to remove the excess skin and also, reposition the fat which isn’t always even as we age.
3) Is the skin just loose and crepey? The best options are tightening with the CO2 laser (usually 1-3 treatments) or plastic surgery.
4) Is the puffiness really lower as in over the bone just under the eye? These malar bags are another problems all together and another answer!
Also a good eye cream may help a little while you’re deciding what to do.
Hope this helps, Dr. I
