If I’m just starting out with fillers, should I go with Sculptra or Juvederm?
All good questions. So two things that come to mind:
- Always start with the things that are more conservative and reversible (in this case Juvederm). You want to see if you like the results, have confidence in the doctor and are comfortable with the procedure BEFORE moving on to something like Sculptra which is technically much more difficult for a doctor to do well. Juvederm that be reversed with the enzyme hyaluronidase if it doesn’t go well whereas Sculptra cannot.
- Please see our regional guide for information on qualified dermatologists.
- Be careful with what you read on the web but with Sculptra (a product that is wonderful and amazing when used well), it IS wise to be careful. It is the most technically difficult of all the fillers to do well and it can get bumpy in ways that are a problem – thus the complaints.
It is also subtle in the beginning since it builds your own collagen while it goes away which is frustrating for some patients. It requires patience. If it is mixed properly, kept in proper suspension while working with it, massaged well and the doctor has a good aesthetic eye and injection skills it, in my opinion, it gives the best results.
But those can be a lot of ifs!
