Is there anything that can help with dark circles under the eyes?
Dark circles are difficult because they can be caused by different things ….. and sometimes have multiple causes. Since treatments are different depending on the cause, it can get tricky. First of all, I’ve never found an “eye lightening” cream that I think really works. If anyone knows something that actually works, please write me! If your dark circles are excess pigment (more brown) as opposed to tiny blood vessels (more purplish), then wearing an eyelid sunscreen and sunglasses will help over time. Try the Dermatologica Total Eye Care SPF 15 or the Colorscience eyelid product. Here is a list of other good eye creams.
Eyelid Fraxel lasers or eyelid fractionated CO2 may be helpful for both excess pigment or visible tiny blood vessels but please go to an expert laser center for this. Most good centers will use a special eye laser shield in the eye (looks like a special contact lense) after a few numbing drops in the eyes, to make sure your eyes are complete protected. For more information check out my article on eye issues.
Also please remember that anything that irritates the delicate eyelid skin like allergies or ocular rosacea can causes changes in the skin color and texture around the eyes. See your dermatologist if you’re not sure of the cause. Hope this helps. Dr. I
