When to get concerned regarding swelling after fillers?

Dr. Irwin, Had Restylane under my eyes and Perlane in cheeks 2 days ago.... swelling now a slight ridge under both eyes. Am terrified it will stay this way...have been reading too many horror internet tales I suppose. Wondering what the natural swelling progression is? Thanks so much

Your welcome!    A couple of thoughts on this:

  1. It’s normal to have a small to moderate amount of swelling after a filler treatment.  If it’s a lot or a lot more than normal, please sure to call your doctor.
  2. It takes about a week for the filler to “mature” after injection.  Meaning – it will naturally move a little to fit your contours and adjust somewhat to the movements of your facial muscles.   After a week or so, if it has migrated or there are lumps or bumps, call your doctor.
  3.  Remember that experienced, board certified dermatologists know how to adjust and fix most problems after injections.   If it isn’t what you were expecting after a week, CALL!

REMEMBER –  small or moderate bruising is normal.   A large or particularly dark bruise may be a sign of a more serious complication (and impending tissue death).  Please call your doctor if you are not sure.
