Complications of microneedling – what should I do?

Dr. Irwin, I am 59 yrs old and had Infini Radiofrequencey Mirco Needling 4 months ago. Two days after tx I had horizontal track marks all over my face. They have gone away & I am left with what looks like pock marks on my cheeks, deep short lines, chin has little bumps and a couple depressions.Went back to the dermatologist and left without answers. I assume my collagen was damaged. Is there anything I can do to restore the collagen or improve the indents? Afraid laser might make matters worse. Thank you for any advice you could offer.

Thank you for writing.   Microneedling is new enough that complications are only recently being reported in medical journals and the lay press.   A radiofrequency microneedling system is different from and more aggressive than a hand held simple roller microneedling system.   In my opinion, for the present, I recommend avoiding the radiofrequency versions due to minimal  data and a lack of standardized protocols.

In general, and I know this is a little counterintuitive, a fractionated CO2 laser or fractionated erbium (like Fraxel Restore 1550) will improve most types of depressed scars on the face.   These two types of lasers have years of science and experience of use for improving scars.   Please consult an expert in your area.

Hope this helps, Dr. I

SkinTour Skincare
One of the best investments in your skin is your daily skincare. Why? Because you can prevent many problems with blotchy skin color, lack of glow, texture, some types of acne, and fine lines with good skincare products. You can also correct some of these problems with effective skincare products. Great skincare is often more expensive because quality ingredients are expensive. Some companies spend on research/development which benefits all of us and adds to the cost. Are they worth it? In general - yes! I have handpicked some of what I consider to be the best skin care products, and offer them for sale on SkinTour's shop. This is based on my team and I's testing and research at our clinic. Many of the products are in my own regimen. What could be better than using skin care products a dermatologist uses?!
